Mt. Rushmore & Crazy Horse

We were in Chicago on the 18th and on the 19th we had a long drive.....

oh man was this a long day...we started just outside of Chicago and we ended the day/next very early morning in Livingston, MT.... we drove 16ish hours with 3 stops, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse & Wall Drug, gained an hour on our drive and still made it to our appointment in Livingston the next day for the bus on the 20th at 9am :) GO US

Mt. Rushmore
Who would of thought that face on a Mountain could impress you so much.  It was a sight to see for sure, the heads looked perfect, like they just finished with them....

i think pictures do enough ... no words can describe it more than these pictures .... it was off to Crazy Horse (which is only 20minutes away)

Crazy Horse - its a must do, just make sure you go to Mt. Rushmore first.... after looking at Mt. Rushmore and then going to Crazy Horse, which isn't even a tenth done, the difference is amazing.  The size difference is huge... the head alone of Crazy horse can fit all 4 heads of Mt. Rushmore... Crazy...  a worker their said they hope to have just the head of the Horse done in about 10years, but no one really knows when it will be done... this project was started in the 40's and its only this far... its a must see if your in the area...

we did stop by a little place called Wall Drug, Sd ... it was started by a pharmacist and later turned out to be a free amusement stop for people.... it was a nice little break for us and a well need leg stretch...

Kings Island - April 17th

What a fun park.... its not a Six Flags park but its a true old fashion theme park.... they only had a few big roller coasters but their main one is awesome... BEAST ... its about 4 minutes long and it takes you out in the woods and through tunnels and everything... very cool wooden coaster... its one of the top wooden coasters... we pretty much did all the rides they had big to small... chris was really bummed because "son of beast" wasnt running... its a wooden coaster that had a single loop, but later to find out was taken out because it caused injuries... they had it open last year but closed it again because of more injuries... this coaster looked off the chain... it was really tall and looked like it went fast, too bad its coast the theme back around 30million just in fixing it ... maybe next time we make it to Cincinnati it will be up and running.... after a very long day we ended it with a great fireworks show right at the front gate...

After a long day at the theme park we jumped back into good old Nancy and started our drive to Chicago... we ended up about an hour outside of Chicago and pulled in to our home away from home Wal-Mart for the night... im not starting to get picky at the ones we stay out... i always look for the ones that are open 24hours so that way i can always have a bathroom and i dont have to wait til morning  :) .... its the little things in life that are very important to always be aware of ....  alright so back to Chicago... what a great city... we stopped and ate at a little pizzeria and watched the white Sox's and Cubs play on tv... we did some more exploring of the city and found our self's outside of the cubs field ... Chris wanted to get a picture with Nancy and the famous Wrigley Field Chicago CUBS sign... it was pretty crazy with the game going on and people walking everywhere but i jumped out of the bus and walked across the street and waited for chris to go around the block and make his way back to the stadium ... i quickly snapped the picture and ran to catch up with him ...... it was the best picture because 3 seconds before he went through the light a big bus blocked the view and he had to slow down and then 3 seconds after i took the picture another bus ran right in front of me and would have blocked the view...

all in all Chicago was pretty fun and i would love to spend more time there...        NEXT STOP is ................

Washington, DC

Well me made it to DC on Wednesday the 14th and spent the night in a wal-mart just outside of downtown... We ran late getting out of NYC and we weren't able to see Eric (my cousin) play in Maryland so that was kind of a bummer, but we were great full to see him on Easter and hopefully someday we will be able to see him play in a Minor or Major league game :) ... Thursday morning we checked into our hotel right in downtown DC, took a shower that was needed and was on our way to our tour of the White House and Capital.... We only realized that it was April 15th "Tax Day" and got to witness the Tea party rally on our walk to the White House... Once we made it passed the 3 security check points and seeing the hundreds of secret service standing EVERYWHERE we finally made it into the White House... We were able to see the East wing, Green, Red & Blue Rooms and the Great room.... All the rooms were amazing and were decorated with great style... There is just so much history in the white house that both chris and i didn't know what to expect... the pictures on the walls with all the past presidents were amazing to see and to be able to be in the same room as JFK or any other president is awesome... During our 30minutes in the White house we were able to see Marine One land right on the grounds right in front of us in the Blue room, we try to see whos coming or going but only can see a marine walk down the steps and then 5 minutes later we the secret service guy points out to us that President Obama is on his way to Marine One... We then made it to the Green room and sure enough we were able to see President Obama walk into Marine One turn around and wave to "US" (probably not us but hey we can think it was to us) ....   It was the coolest thing to see, because if we were ten minutes earlier or later we would have missed the whole thing... so luck was on our side.... after walking through all the sites we made our way to the front doors of the white house and wished we had a camera with us to take our pictures because not every one gets to stand on the white house steps :) .... chris and i both left everything in our hotels inculding our phones so i went up to a lady who was taking a picture with her camera phone and asked if she would mind taking a picture and text messaging it to us... she was awesome and took a picture and it came out great.....
After a great first part of our trip so far we then headed to the US Capital ... SOOOOO much history .....  we met at our  congressman office and in the mix of waiting for another couple to show up we were able to met and shake hands with Doris Matsui ... which later to find out is very rear and not a lot of regular people get to met her because of her busy schedule so that was way very cool.... we then started our tour and went underground and used all the back ways to the white house with our tour guide...there was so much we were able to see and do ... we then finally felt the effects of 7 days straight of nonstop walking on our bodies... on our walk back to our hotel it felt like we were never going to make it... it was finally kicking in and our bodies were telling us that it cant walked anymore... we had a little pit stop to rest our feet mostly and headed back to the Washington, Jefferson & Lincoln Memorial ... not knowing that the monuments were soooooo far away we only had time for Washington and Jefferson because the sun was setting, our feet were killing us and our camera battery was dead and our video camera was on its last 2 minutes of life as well.... so we made the walked back to our hotel and called it an early night.... our our 2nd day of DC we made it out to Arlington Cemetery, which is mind blowing... i couldn't let myself realize how many tum stones there are and how many soldiers have lost there lives for us... the internal flame of President John F. Kennedy was a sight to see... it was so piece full and you really had a feel that he was resting in peace... i do have a question for anyone out there... Why isnt JFK jr. buried with his dad JFK, mom Jacklyn, and there two children who died very young ????  but anyways it was a sad but memoriable time we had on the grounds... we were able to witness the changing of the guards at the Tum of the unknown Solider... AMAZING ... we then crossed over the bridge and made it to the Lincoln Memorial... i still ask chris "why couldnt we have taken the car".... it was a very far walk but had lost of cool things to look at.... the Lincoln Memorial is way bigger than i thought... it was cool and very overwhelming.... but loved it all  .....we Concord DC in two days and it was time to head back on the road to make it to opening day at Kings Island in Cincinatii, OH

NEW YORK CITY - April 11th, 12th & 13th

So its Sunday night and we are heading to Alex’s house in Astoria just outside of NY city… Brian and her are so nice enough to let us crash on their couches… Alex thank you for the map and the T-shirts it made our trip into NY city wonderful, your little tips helped out soooooo much and we were able to enjoy the city more…. Our first day we spent it mostly in downtown Manhattan, seeing the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island (soooo much history I didn’t know about)which both of my grandparents parents passed through from the Portugal/Azores Islands …. It almost brought tears to my eyes so see something that my ancestors had to go through for a better life here in the States…. WTC memorial was speechless and seeing the Fire Station Engine Co. 10 that was right across from the Trade Center’s….. chris and I took a moment and I think for him it was a sad moment of the loss of “his fire brothers” and then turned the corner to see the memorial set up representing every emergency personal on the wall and witnessed a NYFD firefighter on his knees taking a few minutes to pay his respects to one of his “Brothers” and just looking down at the ground and then looked up at where the towers should have been and it seemed like he was on another plant just wishing things were different…. It makes me thank god more for what Chris and every Firefighter, police officer, EMT and any other public servant how puts others first before their safety…. THANK YOU …………… so after that we stopped by an Irish Pub that was right around the corner from the Fire house and it was filled with patches from all over, mostly Fire but there were some Police…… oh we did so much on this day I cant remember it all …. we hit the financial district, took a picture with the bull, visited time square, Chrysler building, Grande Central Station (Gorgeous), Rockefeller Plaza, Empire State building(we went up to the 86th floor), mmmmm I think that’s about it……
Day two was the day chris planned, we tried to wake up early to make the Today show but going to bed at 3am just makes you want to sleep in even more… so we slept in and made our way to lunch reservations at the Boathouse in Central Park… Amazing food and atmosphere.... that’s when I realized I forgot my ring in the hotel, ooopppsss fire me now, we did the paddle boats and then went back to the hotel which was only like 3 blocks away to get my ring and finish the day with a carriage ride through the park. We ended the night with dinner at Planet Hollywood, which was our romantic dinner night in Disneyworld last year… so it fit the occasion…. Then he surprised me with tickets to my first Broadway show…. The phantom of the Opera… I loved it…… after the show we walked back to Time Square and enjoyed the night and watched the building lights change every 5 seconds

Oh how I love this city… on our last day in NYC we spent shopping and finishing up all of the touristy things… We tried to be on the Today show again but missed the last outdoor taping by 5 minutes. We stayed out on the streets for a couple of more segments when someone from the show came up to us and asked if we wanted to be on a with Kathy Lee and Hota in the 10:30 segment about taxes…. Chris and I looked at each other and said sure… Later to find out we were one of 9 groups to be asked a question and they ran out of time before they got to us… so needless to say we got to be apart of a live taping with Kathy lee but never made it to National TV : ( … the experience was fun and we will always have the memories…. From there we went to the Chelsea Market and had a sample of the best banana pudding every... We then jumped back on the subway to Chinatown to experience the Black market… It was an eye opening experience let me tell you… Our first experience was nuts… When you walked up the streets of Chinatown you hear guys quietly saying “purse, purse, coach, Louie, Rollex, etc”. and by the great advice from chirs’s cousin Nick, those are they ones that have all the knock off items for sale… I guess it was a bad time for selling since there were lots of cops around we found a black guy who then told us to follow him and meet him across the street… we followed and then he asked what we wanted and of course I wanted Coach… he said give him a second and he had to go check with one of his “brothers” …. We waited for about 5 minutes he came back and said things are hard right now and that we should go into the restaurant and order a soda and he would be back … we waited another 5-8 minutes and he was back but not with Coach … Apparently coach is harder to get on the black market and he only could get Louie right now… he gave me a folded up paper which had like 50 designs on it and told me to pick which one I liked… he then went back and got two purses from who know where because we were on the street and not in a store… he really wanted to make a sale but the purses weren’t what I wanted and we walked away… felt like a very bad drug deal . Chris and I tried it again before we headed back to our hotel to pick up our things and get on the road…. This time we went with the Chinese … Way better luck… we were in and out in less than 5 minutes… the guy did the whole talk thing and before I knew what I was getting myself into we were walking down a small walkway to a store deep in an ally way with other stores around it… the guy said some stuff in Chinese to a lady and she pointed up to the next store and as soon as we walked into her store she was opening up locked cabinets and pulling out purses right and left and shoving them into a black bag… all the while everyone else is looking out for cops and as for me Im trying to take my time with everything not thinking about how illegal it is … Finally I made my selection and the doors closed quickly and chris and I were on our way…. I have never shopped that fast in my life… I had to re look in the bag once we got on the subway just to see what purses I ended up with…. So in all if your ever in NYC and in Chinatown I highly recommend shopping at the black market stores just for the stories you can tell later on....

after a long 3 days it was time to get on the subway and make our exit out of the city to pick up Nancy... It was sad to leave but im for sure coming back soon.... its off to Washington DC from here....

six flags - Maryland & New Jersey

After a long day of History we had an interesting drive up to Six Flag America in Maryland…. Just say getting lost to the park and chris not wanting to take the turnpikes and me killing the Gps and only having the iphone for directions didn’t make for a fun two days..... by the next day we both forgot about the troubles we had the night before and enjoyed the park… I think we road Batwing 8 times ….. it was a great day

After a very long day at Six Flags we packed it all up again and traveled north to were I thought was New Jersey until Chris woke me up to tell me we were in Philadelphia … he said he looked up an Italian restaurant and it would only take 45 minutes….. Dinner was great and we decided to go site seeing and try to see the Liberty Bell (FYI its indoors and you cant see it when its 11:30 at night) so our 45minute detour turned into a 2 hour detour and add another hour getting lost, again, finding Six Flags Great Adventure….. so instead of getting into New Jersey at a decent time it was a 2 am night again…. Everything worked out and we spent the night in another Wal-Mart….. We made the best of it and woke up on a happy note of going to our final Six Flags of the trip # 4 total and 6 overall …. Who would of thought we would both like rollercoaster’s … I think over all Valenica has our vote on being number one but has some competition with Maryland and New Jersey’s Six Flags… Kingda ka was AMAZING !!!!!!!  hopefully soon I will be putting up the video chris took of it…. Words cant describe this coaster …. 0-126 in 3seconds…. 56 floors up and a straight down drop …once again AMAZING

Virginia - April 8th-9th

So sorry for you blog followers Wi-fi has been way harder to find then we thought.... so once again sorry for the absent days, we are trying to enjoy our trip here....

– Oh lets see, where to start…Sorry it’s been so long of a daily blog… Finding internet has been hard to do… we thought we would have time in Virginia but visiting with Joe and Karen was way more important… and our hotel in NY didn’t have free internet so I write to you in the bus on our drive to DC..

We had an amazing time in Virginia…. I can’t thank Joe and Karen enough for letting us spend the night at their house in Virginia Beach, with everything they had going on they made time for us and it was greatly appreciated ALOT… It was nice to have a hot shower, a bed and we even got to take a dip in the spa (which was well needed)…. The food was awesome and breakfast was yummy (nothing like having home cooked food when you haven’t had it in awhile, Texas for a matter of fact was our last home cooked food) … lots of great stories were pass along the breakfast table (ones that I haven’t heard before, so it was fun to hear)…. I was able to get a glimpse of what a great guy Joey was and how he was very loved by everyone and how he made an impact on chris’s life growing up … if it wasn’t for Joey putting the idea in Chris’s head about making a road trip in the bus, this trip would have never happened… After a long breakfast it was time to hit the road and travel to the first settlement in Williamsburg, VA, and wondered around Yorktown and tried to see Jamestown but the park closed before we could see it… Visiting Williamsburg made chris and I realize that our history of the US is very out dated and we need to have kids so we can relearn everything ….

2nd Week in Review

Day 14- Week in Review

Where to start……Everyday has been filled with fun and new experiences, and not a day has gone by where something amazing has happened. So we started the second week in Texas outside of Six Flags over Dallas. The park had a southern, New Mexico/Texas feel which we liked. We slept in a hotel parking lot between Dallas Stadium (gi-normous), Ranger Stadium and six flags. The park was nice and had a few good rides, and it was nice to take a day off to break up the Texas drive. We spent the night at my mom’s high school/nursing school life long friend’s house and wow, what a great call that was. Kinda didn’t know what to expect, since I hadn’t seen Tim and Louis since I was a child, but it was great to catch up and meet again. Louis stayed up til 11pm to meet and greet and make us feel at home, which we did, especially when we woke up to our first home cooked meal of the trip. Some delicious coffee cake, coffee and juice, strawberries and pineapple, and an egg & ham casserole that I’m sure others would have loved. 3 out of 4’s not bad for not knowing our finicky eating habits. Talked some more and hit the road. Saw an Armadillo sleeping on the side of the road….fact, we saw a whole bunch of animals sleeping on the road between Dallas and New Orleans.

I thought we were stopping in Baton Rouge for dinner, but when I woke up from what I thought was gonna be an hour nap, we were a half hour from New Orleans. We made it work. Snacked on some food and found a Church in Downtown, New Orleans doing the first mass of Easter. Of course in Placke tradition we were late. Mass started at 8 and by the time we found parking it was 845. Walked in and sat down in to the most beautiful church. We immediately stood up and the priest proceeded with the gospel. I kind a chuckled to myself remembering that mom always said that if you make it for the gospel, it counts. Stayed to the end then we took Nancy a block from Bourbon St and got a Margarita and Pizza. The streets were packed for a Saturday night and the buzz of the superbowl is everywhere. Decided to make up some time and found a Wal-mart (thanks for reminding us Louis) a couple hours out.
Woke up early and hit the road to Clearwater, FL. Drove through Pensacola, home of the Blue Angels. Made it to Amanda’s cousin’s hotel around 8 who just happed to be in town for spring training for the Phillies minor league team. All the other Phillies teams had left town, but his team’s first game started later than the rest allowing both of us to be able to say we spent Easter with family. We took Eric to a fabulous Italian restaurant played squeezed 18 holes of miniature golf in, finishing a half hour after closing, and went back to the hotel to watch the last few innings of opening season for baseball. Took off just before midnight and drove the 3 hours to Cape Canaveral for the shuttle launch.

In the excitement of getting there and still being able to find an excellent parking spot in the tiny community of Titusville, which was buzzing with activity for 3 in the morning, I locked the keys in the car for the second time since we picked up the bus. Waited an hour for the locksmith from AAA and passed the time by seeing who could get their penny closer to the handicap head…loser picks up. Sooner than later it was 6:20 am and we had a great uninterrupted view of the shuttle right on the water where a gator could strike at any time. The countdown began and the lake and sky lit up like we were crashing into the sun. Watching it clear the tower brought so many sensations throughout the body, I cannot even explain. It is something you can only experience first hand. About 20 seconds after take off a massive shockwave hits the shores and rumbles the ground like an earthquake. Our friend Keri who lives in Orlando some 70 miles inland said it woke her up.

We waited for the crowds to die down by napping til noon then headed to Cocoa Beach for some fun in the sun. Bought some cheap bogie boards, played some paddle ball, got a tan in April (actually got burnt) and swam in the warm ocean. Headed back to Keri’s for the first shower in 4 days and realized that 3 days should be max. Got to Keri’s picked up some Howie’s Pizza and caught up on life. The hospitality see has given us over the last two years has been so generous and we cannot thank her enough. Her son Noah is the coolest 5 year old I have ever met. And incredibly smart too.

Nancy was overdue for a tune up so I found a mechanic, at 5: 15 pm the Monday after Easter in Cocoa beach who said he could fit us into his schedule the next morning. In Sacramento I had to wait 3 days. So tue. morning we headed back to Cocoa Beach and met Mark, the VW mechanic. When we pulled in there were a variety of VWs spread about and a small little mechanics garage with a house attached and Mark wrenching away on one of his own VWs. We were a couple of hours later than we talked about, but from the phone Mark sounded laid back. And he was….a tall, skinny, long sandy blonde hair, in his mid 40’, who looked like he probably had a surf session that morning. We left Nancy in his hands and caught the trolley into town. Ate at McDonalds who had free Wi-Fi and while waiting for food, had a conversation with Wayne. Wayne was a 65+ retired dentist who lived in Cocoa Beach his whole life and started a conversation with me first about how to make the lines at McDonalds move faster then into politics. There was a crowd in the McDonalds and we covered a lot in 5 minutes. He just happened to take the seat next to Amanda and when I sat down with our food, we had an awesome 45 minute conversation about politics and government and the space program. It ends with Wayne “…..last bit of advice. Always brush your teeth after every meal. Even with no toothpaste. No one in my (his) family has cavities.” Spent the rest of the day shopping and went to pick up Nancy. Mark was finishing up when we got back and had done a through check of Nancy including the tire pressure. He asked if I was a “paper person and needed the work done written up.” After he wrote it all down and forgetting half the stuff he had previously told me he checked he came up with a number off the top of his head and said “ohh..I guess around 70 bucks.” Needless to say, I gave him a hundred considering Sacramento charged around 160. Had dinner that night with Keri (picked up Olive Garden) and headed off to Atlanta that night. Got in round 3 am, took a power nap and went to our second six flags.

Six Flags over Atlanta was packed. Apparently spring break is late out here, but that’s also the reason we were able to go mid week. We upgraded to Platinum Flash Passes and had no wait time to ride the rides and with the Platinum you get to ride ever ride twice and the second time in the front. Great way to ride all the rides in the park and get the coaster count up. We had a great day, but knew there were better parks to come. Found a great burger joint comparable to in n out after a day at six flags called steak and shake. Kinda a Johnny Rockets meets Sonic meets In n Out. Delicious. Spent the night closer to North Carolina and finished the drive the next morning.

Spent the next day at Hendrix Motor Sports, in North Carolina, home of NASCAR. The history and details of the sport were interesting and we say a pretty awesome showcase of cars. The highlight was defiantly seeing the workshops for Dale Jr. and Gordon and J. Johnson and M. Martin. Pretty impressive. And I think we made some family members in Cali jealous. Headed to Virginia that afternoon, but didn’t get there til sometime past 9 due to road/tunnel work and a later than expected start.
We got into Virginia and were greeted with a warm and loving reception from Joe and Karen who even had steak, potatoes, and salad, hot and ready for us. Even strawberry cake dessert. And we were starving at the time. It was so awesome to catch up and see and hear their life in Virginia. They were so kind and gracious to us; Joe even insisted we take a portable jump starter battery, which we are finding handy to charge electronics. And let me just say “thank you” to all our friends to let us stay at their place and steal their power. I think at maximum capacity, we need to charge 9 different pieces of electronics. The next morning we woke up and had another great meal prepared for us. Scrambled eggs, fruit, biscuits and jam, milk and cereal. Couldn't ask for more. Took some pictures and heard some stories with Gunther and said our good-bye’s. Even got some great advice to check out Jamestown and the first settlements of America which we had not planned into our trip. Spent the afternoon seeing the beauty and history of Yorktown, Williamsburg, and Jamestown. The buildings there were amazing. Wish we had more time to see all the exhibits. But it was off for two days at six flags.

Nancy’s running strong after the tune up. The turn signal completely froze for a while. Now it’s just hard to operate and takes some force. We are finding the Hazards work just as well. The front speaker went out this week. Now only the speaker in the back of the bus works. We do have a battery powered I-pod speaker dock which can get the job done for the front, or the favored option is the Bluetooth headset so the person in the back can listen to karaoke or American Idol tryouts while they blog. We are also playing the license plate game when we are both in the front seats and so far it is really close. We have had a few moments of silence after poor navigating and/or poor decision making, but are learning to laugh off the mistakes. We are looking forward to spending the next week in the NY/DC areas and having a minimal week of driving.

The Bus compliments are rolling in and we are getting LOTS of figure pointing, picture taking and story telling. Ever since cape canaveral it hasn’t stopped…

North Carolina & Virginia Beach 4/8/2010

Chris and I had a great day today… I was able to wake up early and hit the road while Chris slept  in and caught up on some sleep… to make my dad mad we took a break in Concord, NC and visited the Hendrick Motorsports shops…. We were able to see JR’s, Jimmy Johnson, Mark Martin & Jeff Gordon’s cars in there shop’s…. pretty amazing….we have now ended our day in Virginia Beach and are staying with Joe & Karen Johnson (family friends of Chris’s)… They are amazing, they had food on the table when we walked in and the company was awesome… they made us feel right at home… we even had a chance to sit in the spa for a little bit and just relax…. We are so grateful to have wonderful family and friends to have opened their doors and have let us spend the night…. Not sure what the plans are for tomorrow but Karen gave us a couple of ideas to do… we will keep you posted but as for now its time for bed… hopefully next time I blog it will be from NEW YORK CITY

Leaving Texas

Leaving Texas

So its been awhile…. Chris and I have been busy and enjoying our trip and haven’t had much down time… We have seen some pretty amazing things so far… We had a great time in Six Flags over Texas, got to see the new Dallas Stadium (its huge) and Ranger Field.  We had a great visit with Tim and Lois the next morning.  Breakfast was delicious and the shower was great.  It was so thoughtful of them to open their house to us and give us a bed and a shower… cause boy did it feel good to shower… We got on the road and headed to Louisiana… This was Easter night and both chris and I though out many of ideas on what we should do for the night..We ended up in New Orleans on Bourbon Street… What a fun little place…. We made it for Easter night mass, saw the superdome, had pizza by the slice and walked down Bourbon street with a good margarita in hand…. We collect some beads on our walk down the street for souvenirs and made our way back to Nancy so we could get on the road again to make it to Florida for Easter.  We made it about 45 minutes out side of New Orleans before we called it a night in the  Wal-Mart parking lot…

Easter Sunday we spend driving through Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama & Florida…. After that drive I was sooooooo ready for a shower….  We finally made it to Clearwater, Florida where we had Easter Dinner with Family… We met up with my Cousin Eric and had a great Spaghetti dinner…  the Company was great and the memories will be there forever… we ended the night with a round of Miniature Golf and the last few endings for the opener game between NY Yankees & Boston Red Sox’s…. Hopefully we will be able to see one of Eric’s games in New Jersey next week… It was a short but great visit with him and who would have thought we would be able to visit with family on the east coast… As we left his hotel we had our sites set for Kennedy Space Center…

Chris was a trooper and drove the 3 hrs to Cape Canaveral that night which put us in at 3am… We had about 2 hours and 21 minutes til the shuttle launch so we picked our spot out and wanted to walk around and enjoy the environment with everyone who came out to watch the launch too… Instead Chris decided to lock the keys in the car (for the 2nd time this month)… we had NO cell phone, no money and no ID…. Luckily there was a gas station nearby and they were nice enough and let us use there phone and AAA card… so with nothing to do and wishing I could take a nap before the launch, but nope we ended up sitting out side of the gas station playing “who could throw the penny closer to the handicap head on the ground”  PS people start to look at you funny when you walk and pick up penny’s…. so an hour goes by and a little old guy pulls and follows us to the car on the other side of the street…. It takes him about 20 minutes to figure out what he should do, but he was too short and the slim jim wasn’t working …. So he went with plan B … not sure what it was called but it looked like a blood pressure cuff shoved in the door and a giant coat hanger to try and open the door… Well they guy was too short to look inside so went back to get a ladder while chris and I tried our luck and was able to get it open… We thanked the guy and sent him on his way at 4:45am… so that was a good hour gone and only had an hour and 21minutes left…. Chris found a spot right on the water straight across from the launch pad (but 11mile away)….. We turned our radio on and was able to listen in to NASA give the count down T minus 2minutes…. T minus 60seconds…. T minus 45seconds…. T minus 30seconds…. And at T minus 15seconds I said …..”oh shit….holy crap…oh my god….” and then I was silent for the next 2 minutes… IT WAS AMAZING… I don’t even know how to describe what I saw, it was pure amazement… to be able to put Men and Women in space with that much power and force almost brought me to tears… we were able to see the shuttle for almost 5 minutes after the launch because the sun wasn’t up yet....Even the after math of the smoke was amazing to see once the sun raised…. As I write I just got chills just thinking about it again… after the launch we stayed up for about an hour after and watched all the cars try to leave and it was a parking lot on the streets… no one was moving and if you were it was only a couple feet…. We ate some breakfast and then passed out for a couple of hours before we headed to Cocoa Beach for the rest of the day.....

Agh at last the beach …..i love east coast beaches….. soooo amazing and so sandy….We bought some buggy boards and headed off to the beach for a couple of hours…. After we both feel asleep and played in the water it was time to head to Keri’s house in Orlando for the night.   We got to hang out with her and Noah for the night…. The Next morning we drove back out to Cocoa Beach to do a check up and an oil change on Nancy.  After another long day in the sun we headed back to Orlando to pack up our things and say our goodbyes to Keri and Noah….it was awesome to see them again, wish we could have stayed longer so we could have played and visited more….I know next time on our trip out to Florida we will have to make it longer…. Miss you both already…. Thanks again
